QUARTER FINALS RESULTS 11/8/10

CHRIS’S TEAM V CANTS

This match was a replay of the last round of the season, with Chris’s Team and Cants.  Last week Chris’s team topped Cants to finish on top of the ladder to take the Minor Premiers crown.

Chris’s Team lined up with only 3 players, which was like a replay for Cants who could only manage 3 players in the grand final last year and who were defeated by having to forfeit 4 frames before the match even started.

The match started off well for both teams and the scores were level at 2 each after the first round, Chris’s team won 3 frames and forfeited one in the second round to give them a slight advantage.  Cants won the doubles to bring the scores back to within 1 frame.  The wins were shared in the 3^rd round but Cants still trailed by 1 heading into the last round.  Chris’s Team won the first frame to lead by 2, Cants had the advantage of the forfeit so only had to win 2 more frames to win the match.  Cants fast forward chance to the grand final was shattered when Jamie Buettner potted the black to win the frame and the match for Chris’s Team.

Chris’s Team were faultless in the math winning 9 frames to Cants 3 not including the 4 frames Chris’s Team forfeited.

 Chris’s Team score was shared between Chris Beagley with 4-4, Jamie Buettner with 3-3 and Mel Sanders with 2-3.

Cants Team will have to smarten up to win the Semi Final next week if they want to have another chance at defeating Chris’s Team in the grand final.  This week, best for Cants, not including forfeits was Leisa Sjaardema won 1-4, Gwen Anderson 0-4, Nick Fuller 1-4 and Charles Ormond 1-4.

CUNNING STUNTS V MASTER BREAKERS

Master Breakers shot out of the box and took the first round 3-1 against last year’s premiers.  The only one to win a frame in the first round for Stunts was Mark Churchward who defeated current Reserve Grade Singles Champion Josh Sopeer.  Mark struck again in the second round for Stunts and Josh was still left to get started for Breakers.  The wins were shared in the second round and Stunts got up in the doubles to bring the scores back to within 1.  With a 5-4 lead going into the second half of the match Stunts were feeling confident taking the first frame to level the scores.  Breakers won the next 3 to have a 3 frame lead going into the last round and only needing 1 more to take the match. The match was over after the first frame in the last round when Sharon Jennings defeated Scott McKay to give Breakers the 9-5 win.

Cunning Stunts team score, Scott McKay 1-4, Mark Churchward 2-3, Damien Taipale 1-3

Cunning Stunts are now out of the finals series and Master Breakers will line up next week against Cants.  The winner of this match will play Chris’s Team in the Grand finale the week after.

Josh Sopeer will be unable to play in the semi final next week as he as well as Damien Taipale and Mark Churchward leave Friday night with the rest of the Northern Territory team who are flying to Kupung for the annual Timour Cup. Master Breakers will also be missing Sharon Jennings who will be holidaying in New Zealand.

The players left to play next week for Master Breakers will be Jeff Eichler, Daniel Crawley, Tim Olencawicz and Cliff Crockford.  Lining up for Cants will be Nick Fuller, Charles Ormond, Gwen Anderson and Leisa Sjaardema.  Cants should go in as favourites as all 4 players will be going to Adelaide to represent Northern Territory at the National Championships in October, but after their effort this week it could go either way.  Master Breakers have Jeff Eichler who was really pumped up this week and played perfect pool, Daniel Crawley who should not be taken lightly, Tim Olencawicz who is also on top of his game and Cliff Crockford who can be a surprise package.
